April 15, (THEWILL) – Brighton and Hove Albion picked up a crucial 2-1 victory against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, thanks to a stunning winner from Paraguayan teenager, Julio Enciso.
Although Brighton started brightly and threatened to take the lead, Chelsea broke the deadlock in the 13th minute through Conor Gallagher’s deflected effort. However, Brighton responded well and equalised three minutes before halftime, with Danny Welbeck heading in a cross from Pascal Gross.
In the second half, Brighton continued to push for a winner and eventually found it in the 69th minute through Enciso’s 30-yard strike. Blues’ caretaker boss Frank Lampard introduced Mason Mount in fee 74th minute as the hosts went in search for a leveller but it did not materialise before the final whistle.
The victory moved the Seagulls four points away from fifth-placed Tottenham, boosting their hopes of qualifying for Europe. Meanwhile, Chelsea remain in 11th place in the English Premier League and are without a win in six matches under Lampard.
Brighton will now face Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday, while Chelsea will turn their attention to the UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg tie against Real Madrid on Tuesday.
