March 20, (THEWILL) — Peller’s management has addressed allegations that the TikToker made an unauthorized visit to the Benin Kingdom’s palace in Edo State, saying the trip was formally arranged and intended to promote Nigerian culture.
In an official statement released on March 19, the team explained, “We submitted a request letter to the palace on February 23 for a courtesy visit. We were informed that Oba Ewuare II would not be available, but Peller was graciously received by Uyiekpen Ogiefa, son of Chief Courage Uyi Ogiefa, the N’ozeben of the Benin Kingdom, along with palace chiefs. He was shown around the palace and briefed on its history, culture, and traditions.”
The statement apologized for any misconceptions from the visit, saying, “Any mispronunciations or actions were unintentional and purely human, possibly influenced by excitement and the warmth of the reception.”
It emphasised Peller’s passion for promoting Nigerian culture and said it was never his intention to disrespect Benin heritage.
The Benin Traditional Council had earlier criticized the visit as a breach of palace protocol and summoned Peller to appear before a committee of chiefs.
The council also criticized palace officials and a queen for their involvement.
Concluding, the team said,
“We appreciate the feedback and continued support from fans and the public as this matter generates discussion. We hope to clarify that Peller’s intentions were always respectful and cultural in nature.”
