March 20, (THEWILL) – Red Bull dominated the Saudi Arabian GP with Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen finishing first and second, respectively.
Perez snatched the lead from Fernando Alonso, who started from pole position but was soon penalised for improper start procedures. Current champion Verstappen had to start from 15th place but managed to weave his way through the pack to finish behind his teammate.
Despite starting from the back of the grid due to driveshaft problems, Verstappen relentlessly pushed through the field, finally catching up with Perez halfway through the race. Alonso managed to hold on to third place despite challenges from George Russell and Lewis Hamilton. However, both Mercedes drivers eventually fell behind the Spaniard, with Hamilton finishing in fifth place.
Perez’s victory marked his second win of the season, after winning the Azerbaijan Grand Prix earlier this year. With Verstappen finishing second and securing the fastest lap bonus point, the Dutch driver retained his lead in the overall standings.
Red Bull now have a significant lead over Mercedes in the Constructors’ Championship, with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc finishing in sixth and seventh place respectively.
