April 01, (THEWILL) – Plateau United’s head coach, Fidelis Ikechukwu, is confident that his team will put an end to Bendel Insurance’s unbeaten run when the two sides meet in the Nigeria Premier Football League this weekend.
Bendel Insurance is the only team that has not suffered a defeat in the league so far this season and is leading Group A with a five-point gap. However, Ikechukwu believes his team can take revenge and end the unbeaten run of the Benin Arsenals on Sunday.
“It’s 100 percent possible to take revenge on Bendel Insurance. Last season Rivers United were 14 games unbeaten coming to Plateau United but we beat them. So, that one is not a problem,” said Ikechukwu. Despite a 3-2 defeat to Shooting Stars in Ibadan on Wednesday, the coach is adamant that his team can secure a win against the league leaders.
Meanwhile, Insurance chief coach, Monday Odigie, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the fixture schedule of the 2022/2023 NPFL season. The team drew 1-1 with Akwa United FC of Uyo on Wednesday, but Odigie believes the schedule is not helping his players. “The fixtures are too close for us to get the best out of the players,” he said.
Bendel Insurance currently leads Group A of the NPFL with 25 points after 11 matches and have maintained their unbeaten streak through seven wins and four draws. Plateau United is fifth.
