December 26, (THEWILL) — The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has suspended its President, Mr Pretty Okafor, and appointed Mr Sydney Sparrow as Acting National President.
The decision was announced on Friday, in a statement issued by PMAN National Treasurer, Mr Baba Ojonugwa.
Ojonugwa stated that the action was taken at an emergency NEC meeting held on December 25, 2025, following allegations of repeated constitutional violations, abuse of office, disregard for due process, and conduct considered harmful to the welfare, credibility, and integrity of the association.
He said the NEC also resolved to cancel all unauthorised appointments, reinstate the National Treasurer, and begin a forensic audit of PMAN’s accounts.
“In the meantime, Sydney Sparrow, PMAN Governor for the Federal Capital Territory, has been appointed Acting National President of PMAN”, Ojonugwa said.
He assured members that the measures were corrective and reaffirmed the NEC’s commitment to transparency and the welfare of musicians.
Mr Okafor became PMAN President in October 2016 and was re-elected in October 2023.
However, since August 2024, the association has faced internal disputes linked to allegations of constitutional breaches and financial misconduct.
