February 21, (THEWILL) – Former Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain Manager, Mauricio Pochettino, has rejected an initial approach to replace Graham Potter, as Chelsea boss.
THEWILL recalls that Potter is under piling pressure as the team’s poor performance has seen them win just one fixture this year, leaving the Blues in 10th position in the English Premier League table after 23 matches and no apparent end in sight to their string of losses.
Despite a massive investment of around £600m since the club was taken over by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital Group last year, Chelsea has won only eight league games all season. While Boehly has been supporting Potter since his appointment, some members of Chelsea’s hierarchy have voiced their concern about the club’s form and lack of improvement.
Chelsea was reportedly considering appointing Pochettino as a replacement, but it seems that the Argentine is not ready to take up the challenge at Stamford Bridge. Sources monitored by THEWILL suggest that Pochettino is keen on a return to football but wants to ensure that the conditions are right for him to make a move.
Despite his desire to return to the EPL, Chelsea does not appear to be ticking the boxes for the 50-year-old at present.
