
January 19, (THEWILL) — The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one suspect in connection with the death of Nigerian singer, Adesina Afeez, popularly known as Destiny Boy.
In a statement on Monday, police spokesperson, Babaseyi Oluseyi, said the investigation into the 22-year-old singer’s death has begun and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for further investigation.
“The Ogun State Police Command has since commenced investigations into the death of Adesina Afeez, aged 22 years, popularly known as Destiny Boy. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for detailed investigation. One suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing”, the statement said.
Destiny Boy’s death was first reported on Sunday after videos of his body being transported to a mortuary went viral. One of the videos showed him in a vehicle with cotton wool in his nostrils and ears.
Another video featured an unidentified man saying Destiny Boy had been battling a private health issue before he died.
As of now, no clear cause of death has been disclosed by the police or the singer’s family, leaving the circumstances surrounding his passing unclear.
Destiny Boy rose to fame in 2019 after his Fuji cover of Davido’s hit song If went viral.
He started his career as a backup dancer for renowned Fuji singer, Pasuma, before pursuing a full-time career in music.
He released several songs, including Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, and Lowkey. Destiny Boy and his partner, Iremide, welcomed their first child in November 2024.
The police said further updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
