April 23, (THEWILL) — Suspected gunmen have killed a pastor, Emmanuel Ezeoikwe, following an overnight attack on Zinal village in Song Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The Adamawa State Command of the Nigeria Police Force confirmed the incident, stating that the assault occurred in the early hours of Tuesday at the cleric’s residence.
Police spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed that the command received a report of the killing at about 6:30 a.m., noting that the attackers had struck earlier at about 12:48 a.m.
“On the 21st of April, 2026, at about 6:30 am, the Command received a report that at about 12:48 am of the same date, suspected gunmen invaded the village and shot the victim”, Nguroje stated.
He explained that police operatives responded swiftly to the distress call and proceeded to the scene, where they found the victim and rushed him to a hospital. The pastor was, however, confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
The police further revealed that three empty AK-47 shells were recovered at the scene, while the remains of the deceased have been deposited in a morgue for autopsy.
In response, the Commissioner of Police, Kabir Hassan, has ordered a discreet investigation into the incident and directed the deployment of tactical teams to track down those responsible.
The Command urged residents to remain calm and assist security agencies with credible information that could aid ongoing efforts to apprehend the perpetrators.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities said investigations were ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack and ensure those involved are brought to justice.
