September 02, (THEWILL) — Nigerian comedian and skin maker, Raji Adetola, popularly known as Mr Sanku Comedy, has passed away following a car accident in Ibadan.
His family and colleagues confirmed his death on Tuesday.
The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, September 1, 2025, along the Oyo–Ogbomoso road. Photos and videos from the scene showed the vehicle in a ditch after the crash.
Sanku and a friend travelling with him were rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, he was later pronounced dead. His companion’s current condition remains unclear, though reports suggest critical injuries.
The news has deeply shaken the Nigerian entertainment industry, prompting an outpouring of grief from colleagues and fans on social media.
Actress Funmi Awelewa expressed that she had initially received hopeful news about Sanku’s condition. She mentioned being told that he was responding to treatment, and though many prayed for his recovery, he ultimately did not survive.
On her Instagram page, she wrote:
“When I saw the news online, I quickly sent one of my students who stays close to Bowen hospital, and he told me that he met one of your friends at the hospital who told us that you’re responding to treatment. I prayed……God, we prayed!!! Kilowa de bai Oloun, Haa Olorun oba oo.”
Sanku began creating skits in 2021 and rose to prominence in 2024, gaining over one million TikTok followers through his original and relatable comedy.
