West Ham emerged victorious in a pre-season friendly against Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday, spoiling Ange Postecoglou’s debut as Spurs’ manager.
The match, held at Optus Stadium in Perth and witnessed by a crowd of 46,266 fans, showcased the attacking quality on both sides. Despite Tottenham’s dominance in terms of shots, it was West Ham who took advantage on their chances, to earn a 3-2 victory.
Tottenham started the game with an energetic display, creating numerous goal-scoring opportunities. However, their defense appeared vulnerable, allowing the Hammers to take the lead against the run of play. Danny Ings found the back of the net with a well-executed header from a superb Jarrod Bowen cross.
West Ham continued to exploit Tottenham’s defensive frailties when 18-year-old Divin Mubama scored with a header from a slick set piece. Although Tottenham fought back with goals from Giovani Lo Celso and debutant Destiny Udogie, it was West Ham’s Gianluca Scamacca who had the final say, breaking the tie in the 78th minute.
Tottenham’s tour of the Asia-Pacific region will continue with a match against Leicester City in Thailand on July 23, followed by a game against the Lion City Sailors in Singapore. Meanwhile, Dagenham and Redbridge await West Ham at home on July 22.
