July 6, (THEWILL) — Buckingham Palace said Prince Harry will not stay at the royal residence during his visit to London this week, claiming his response to an accommodation offer arrived too late.
The disagreement became public on Monday, July 6, after Prince Harry’s team said he had accepted an invitation to stay at Buckingham Palace. Hours later, the Palace said the offer had already been withdrawn because the response came after the deadline.
Royal sources said Prince Harry was informed over the weekend that it was too late to arrange accommodation and assign Royal Household staff for the visit.
A spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex confirmed that the offer had been withdrawn and described the decision as “disappointing”.
Buckingham Palace also said a court ruling in Prince Harry’s legal case against Associated Newspapers, due on July 7, made the situation more complicated because of King Charles III’s constitutional neutrality.
However, Prince Harry’s team said the Palace already knew about the court date before the accommodation offer was accepted.
Despite the disagreement, Prince Harry is expected to continue with his planned UK charity engagements, including events marking one year until the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham.
Over the weekend, Prince Harry’s team confirmed that Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, would not travel to the UK after they were denied police protection.
Harry, who has lived in California with Meghan since 2020, has previously said security concerns have prevented him from bringing his children to Britain.
The family had been expected to make their first visit to the UK together in four years.
