March 20, (THEWILL) – A 20-year-old PSV Eindhoven supporter, who attacked Sevilla goalkeeper, Marko Dmitrovic, during their Europa League meeting last month, has been handed a 40-year stadium ban by the Eredivisie club.

The incident occurred during the final moments of the knockout round play-off tie, which PSV won 2-0, but lost 3-0 in Spain, resulting in their elimination from the competition. The very capable Dmitrovic succeeded in pinning the attacker down before security removed him from the pitch.

The individual was sentenced to an initial two-month prison stint on March 8, with an additional one-month inside if he re-offends. PSV has now confirmed that the perpetrator will face a 40-year ban from the stadium, stretching until 2063. The man was already serving a ban from the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB), and could face a possible fine imposed by UEFA.

Sevilla will face Manchester United in the Europa League quarter-finals in April after securing a 2-1 aggregate victory over Fenerbahce. PSV, who have been eliminated from the competition, have taken such a strong action against the pitch invader to demonstrate their commitment to ensuring fan safety at the stadium.
