March 28, (THEWILL) – Outrage has continued to trail the death of Adetunji Opayele, popularly known as Teejay, the co-founder and Chief Technical Officer of Bumpa, who died on March 4 following an accident and an alleged act of negligence.
Calls for justice have intensified on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, with many users signing a petition demanding that Biola Adams-Odutayo be charged with manslaughter rather than reckless driving.
According to the petition, Opayele, who had the right-of-way, was run over by Biola while returning home from the gym in Victoria Island. Witnesses at the scene alleged that Biola, a healthcare professional, attempted to flee but was prevented by bystanders.
They further claimed that she refused to offer help to the unconscious and bleeding Opayele, citing concerns about bloodstains in her vehicle.
Efforts by bystanders to save Opayele proved futile as he was reportedly turned away from two hospitals before succumbing to his injuries at a third facility.
The petition further alleged that Biola was detained overnight by the Nigerian police on charges of reckless driving but was granted bail for one million naira, which was immediately paid.
She was later summoned by the police on March 17 but failed to appear, with her current whereabouts unknown.
Petitioners also claim she has shown no remorse and has boasted about her family’s influence in evading justice.
Family, friends, and concerned members of the public are calling on the Lagos State Police Command to ensure a thorough investigation into the matter and bring those responsible to book.
Adetunji Opayele was born in Lagos on December 20, 1992.
He attended Lagos State Model College, Meiran, before earning a law degree from Obafemi Awolowo University.
He later transitioned into software engineering, building a notable career in the field across Nigeria and the United States. Until his death, he was the co-founder and Chief Technical Officer of Bumpa, a startup focused on automating retail operations for small businesses.
