June 4 (THEWILL) — Afrobeats singer, Qing Madi, has accused her former record label boss, Joy Tongo, CEO of JTon Music, of forging her signature and stealing from her.
The singer made the allegations during a TikTok Live on Wednesday night while reacting to the removal of several songs from her newly released EP, “Barely Legal”, from Spotify.
Qing Madi claimed her former label has been trying to sabotage her career following a legal dispute between the two parties. According to her, the label sued her for $2 million but lost the case.
“She stole from me, did a bunch of weird things like forging my signature. She sued me for $2M & she lost the case. She took down ‘Pepper Me’, I worked with my team to prove it’s an illegal takedown. They went through the corners again to take down the project”, she stated.
The latest takedown follows an April incident in which Qing Madi’s collaboration with Zinoleesky, “Pepper Me”, was removed from Spotify. The singer alleged that the track was taken down unlawfully before it was later restored to the platform.
She also urged fans to speak out against what she described as injustice, adding that she was becoming exhausted by the situation.
Several tracks from Qing Madi’s seven-track EP, “Barely Legal”, released under KFMD, became unavailable on Spotify shortly after its release. Songs including “Lady” and “10 Over 10” were reportedly affected, leaving only two tracks available on the platform.
The EP features guest appearances from Tiwa Savage, Wande Coal, BNXN, Flavour, Victony and Zinoleesky.
Responding to the allegations, Tongo denied forging Qing Madi’s signature or stealing from her. She described the claims as false and insisted that the legal dispute remains ongoing.
According to Tongo, the case Qing Madi claimed to have won has not gone to trial, and an existing court injunction gives her label the right to request takedowns.
The development has sparked reactions online, with fans expressing concern over the removal of tracks from the project.
