August 13, (THEWILL) – In a 4-0 loss to Brentford on Saturday, Erik ten Hag’s team recorded one of Manchester United’s worst ever losses in English Premier League history.
Ten Hag was able to give Cristiano Ronaldo a start in an effort to give United some sort of response to last weekend’s 2-1 home loss to Brighton and Hove Albion, but all they got was a humiliating defeat.
Josh Dasilva and Mathias Jensen gave Brentford a 2-0 lead inside of 18 minutes, and then Ben Mee and Bryan Mbeumo made sure Brentford became just the third team in Premier League history to defeat United by four goals in the first half. It was a bad day at the office for David de Gea, whose mistakes did not help the result.
Although the Bees were unable to further torture United and Ten Hag, it did not really matter because the harm had already been done.
Next Monday, Ten Hag’s quest for his first victory as United manager resumes when bitter rivals Liverpool visit Old Trafford. United fans can only pray it does not get worse. On the other hand, Fulham hosts Brentford next Saturday.
