July 18, (THEWILL) — Controversial rapper Speed Darlington has slammed a N3 billion lawsuit against the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), accusing the agency of violating his fundamental human rights.
The suit, filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, comes after NAPTIP publicly declared the entertainer wanted over allegations of rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking.
NAPTIP made the declaration on June 27, claiming Darlington failed to honour multiple invitations for questioning after he allegedly bragged online about having sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl.
Amid public outrage, the rapper later recanted, insisting the claim was merely a publicity stunt for an upcoming music release.
In the court filing, Darlington is demanding N3 billion in total damages, N1 billion as compensation and N2 billion as punitive damages, along with 5% monthly interest.
He is also seeking a public apology from NAPTIP and a permanent injunction restraining the agency from further infringing on his rights.
