Marcus Rashford has been forced to withdraw from the England squad for their Euro 2024 qualifiers against Italy and Ukraine.
The Manchester United forward sustained a knock during their FA Cup quarter-final win over Fulham on Sunday and required treatment before being withdrawn in the 83rd minute. The Three Lions will be without their most in-form player, who has scored 19 goals since the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
A club statement on Rashford’s injury read: “Marcus Rashford has been forced to withdraw from the England squad. The Manchester United forward sustained a knock during the 3-1 victory over Fulham in the Emirates FA Cup quarter-final at Old Trafford on Sunday. Our no.10 required treatment after being hurt in the build-up to Aleksandar Mitrovic’s opener for the visitors and was later withdrawn in the 83rd minute, with Fred taking his place.”
England manager Gareth Southgate has no plans to replace Rashford or Mason Mount, who also withdrew from the squad due to injury, with additional players. Southgate’s forward options for the upcoming games include Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Harry Kane, James Maddison, Bukayo Saka, and Ivan Toney. But, he will also be without Nick Pope, who is also injured.
Their absences will be a significant blow to the Three Lions, who will be hoping to maintain their unbeaten run in the qualifiers.
