April 28, (THEWILL) – Real Madrid’s midfielder, Luka Modric, could miss out on the Copa del Rey final and the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final against Manchester City due to a thigh injury.
The club confirmed the news after the 37-year-old limped off the pitch during the recent 4-2 defeat to Girona. Though they have not given a time frame for Modric’s return, local reports monitored by THEWILL suggest the injury could be serious enough to keep him out of some significant upcoming fixtures.
Real Madrid’s coach Carlo Ancelotti expressed his concern about the injury, saying: “He has a small injury. I don’t know if he will reach the cup final. We are hurt, but these things happen. I hope he recovers.” Ancelotti also added that he was already prepared to be without the services of star defender Eder Militao, who is suspended for the upcoming UCL first leg against Manchester City.
Ancelotti has some options to replace Modric, including Dani Ceballos, Eduardo Camavinga, and Aurelien Tchouameni. However, the coach acknowledged that Modric’s experience in big matches made him an irreplaceable player.
