June 05, (THEWILL) – The Denver Nuggets asserted their dominance in Game 2 of the NBA Finals, firmly controlling the match against the Miami Heat with another Finals series victory on the cards.
However, a game-changing performance from Miami’s backup forward, Duncan Robinson, altered the course of the game. Robinson’s remarkable display fuelled a stunning comeback, leading the Heat to a thrilling 111-108 victory. With the series now tied at 1-1, all eyes turn to Miami for the pivotal next game on Wednesday.
Entering the fourth quarter with an 83-75 lead, the Nuggets appeared poised for victory, thanks in part to Nikola Jokić’s exceptional 18-point third quarter. But Robinson, who had yet to score, emerged as the catalyst for Miami’s resurgence. He spearheaded an impressive 8-2 run at the start of the final quarter, cutting Denver’s lead to a slim 85-83. Capitalising on their newfound momentum, the Heat went on a remarkable 12-0 run, seizing control of the game and never relinquishing it.
Miami’s shooting touch expectedly returned, as they connected on 48.7% of their field goals, including an impressive 48.6% (17-of-35) from beyond the arc. Still, despite Jokić’s outstanding performance of 41 points and 11 rebounds, Miami managed to stifle his playmaking abilities, limiting him to just 4 assists. Jamal Murray provided support with 18 points and 10 assists, while Aaron Gordon was the only other Nuggets starter in double figures with 12 points and 7 rebounds.
The Nuggets’ defensive rotations faltered, leaving the Heat with open shots on the perimeter. In contrast, Miami’s Duncan Robinson, alongside his teammates, delivered a remarkable comeback to level the series and set the stage for an intense Game 3 in Miami.
