August 04, (THEWILL) – Gernot Rohr, the former coach of the Super Eagles, has asked that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) fulfils a FIFA order and pay his outstanding fees.
THEWILL recalls that following his dismissal in December 2021, Rohr took the NFF before FIFA, in a complaint for damages, following what he termed an unfair termination of his contract. The NFF was mandated by a FIFA decision to pay Rohr N160 million (about $380,000).
The Franco-German is yet to receive full payment of this sum. Although Rohr claims to have already received a portion of the funds, he is requesting that the football federation give him what is left of the money, saying: “I received part of the payments from FIFA, but not everything has been paid. The ruling already said the interest must be paid, now we are waiting for the outstanding with the interest.”
The NFF appears to be short on funds in the meantime. An NFF official clarified the Federation’s position, claiming that FIFA will release the money to Rohr, using some of FIFA’s development budget for Nigeria. He further explained that Rohr had already received more than $250,000. Therefore, it was just $127,000 left to pay.
