November 15, (THEWILL) – Romelu Lukaku is back running on grass as he continues to heal from an ankle injury that has kept him out for nearly a month.
The Belgian has been out since sustaining an injury in a 4-0 Champions League win over Malmö on October 20th, the same match in which fellow attacker Timo Werner strained his hamstring.
Neither player has played since, but Chelsea’s head coach Thomas Tuchel hopes for them to return after the November international break.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s last Premier League game before the international break, Tuchel said: “If I give you any date now I need to confirm or give other dates. We have the national break now then we will be more clear.
“We will use the time and see what is going on during the second week of the national break. If you ask me the question and I can be more precise than now. We will use the break, have every day treatment for him, Timo and Mateo to bring them on the pitch as soon as possible.”
There has been little news regarding Werner and Kovacic, who is also injured, as the international break draws to a close, but Lukaku has issued a positive update on his recovery
The Belgium international posted several images of himself running on the grass at Chelsea’s Cobham training base on social media, boosting expectations that he may be able to play some part when the Blues go to the King Power Stadium on Saturday to face Leicester.
However, Tuchel will hope that he is fit for vital European and domestic battles against Juventus and Manchester United, respectively, even if the trip to the East Midlands comes too soon for him.
