July 02, (THEWILL) – Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly requested permission to leave Manchester United.
The 37-year-old was United’s leading scorer after making a sensational return from Juventus last summer, to the team from where his meteoric rise began. And although there were reports that he was staying put at Old Trafford, he is now actively seeking a transfer.
The Portuguese superstar wants United to let him leave if they receive a good offer this summer because he wants to play in the UEFA Champions League next season.
He has competed in Europe’s prestigious competition for 19 straight seasons, but will have to feature in the UEFA Europa League if he stays after United’s disappointing sixth-place finish.
Ronaldo believes he still has three to four years to play at the highest level and wants to play for a squad that can win championships.
