November 11, (THEWILL) – Juventus edged past visitors, Cagliari, 2-1 at home on Saturday, to move to the top of the Serie A table, at least temporarily.
The first half saw few chances for either side, with Cagliari’s Nicolas Viola and Juve’s Federico Chiesa both missing opportunities. It was not until the 60th minute that Juventus finally broke through, when defender, Bremer, headed in a free kick from Filip Kostic.
Juventus doubled their lead 10 minutes later when another Kostic set piece delivery was turned in by Daniele Rugani. There was some controversy around the goal as Rugani appeared to use his hand before bundling the ball over the line, but VAR allowed the goal to stand.
Cagliari pulled one back with just over 15 minutes remaining, defender Alberto Dossena scoring from a corner to set up a tense finale. Dossena later hit the post and Gaetano Oristanio missed a chance to equalize as Juventus held on for the three points.
The win sees Juventus move above previous leaders Inter Milan, at least until Inter play Frosinone on Sunday. The two title rivals meet after the upcoming international break in what will be a pivotal clash.
