February 04, (THEWILL) – Chelsea have finalised the acquisition of French midfielder Mathis Amougou from Saint-Etienne for a reported fee of €15 million. The 19-year-old talent has committed his future to the London club with an eight-year contract.
The midfielder, who excelled in Saint-Etienne’s promotion campaign last season, accumulated 17 appearances in Ligue 1 during the current term. His departure comes with five months remaining on his Saint-Etienne contract, following unsuccessful extension negotiations with the French side, which currently faces relegation concerns.
“I am very happy. It is an honour for me to sign for such a big club like Chelsea,” Amougou stated upon his arrival. “They believe in young players and the process they have in place to develop us is fantastic.” The teenager will begin training with his new teammates immediately as Chelsea maintains its position in fourth place, trailing Liverpool by 13 points.
Amougou’s credentials include notable international recognition, having received the Bronze Ball at the 2023 Under-17 World Cup. His performances earned him promotion to the French Under-20 squad earlier in the season, a testament to his rapid progression through the national youth ranks.
