March 26, (THEWILL) – A crash involving Formula One race driver, Mick Schumacher, during qualifying for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on Saturday, resulted in the driver being flown to the hospital.
Schumacher’s team, Haas, stated that he was “physically in a good condition”, but had been airlifted to a hospital for precautionary reasons.
Early readings indicate that Schumacher lost control of his car during qualifying and slammed into a barrier. Before being transferred to the hospital, he was conscious and appeared to be in good health.
The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the governing body of Formula One, issued a statement saying that a medical examination found Schumacher had sustained no injuries.
Schumacher is the 23-year-old son of German Formula One racing legend Michael Schumacher, who won 91 races and was a seven-time points champion.
After racing on numerous other circuits, including Formula 2, the younger Schumacher made his F1 debut in 2020 as a test driver.
Last season, he competed in 22 Formula One races and finished 19th overall. Schumacher is 11th in the standings after one race this season and was lucky to avoid harm on Saturday because his car shattered into two parts upon impact.
