June 02, (THEWILL) — Hollywood actor, Sir Idris Elba, has received a knighthood from King Charles III during an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle.
The 53-year-old was honoured for services to young people. He is best known for his roles in “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw” and the TV series “Luther”.
The honour was presented on Tuesday, June 2, at Windsor Castle, where King Charles recognised several public figures for their contributions to entertainment, sport and charity.
Also honoured were Olympic ice dance champions Dame Jayne Torvill and Sir Christopher Dean, who received awards for services to ice skating and voluntary work. The pair won gold at the 1984 Winter Olympics with their iconic Bolero performance.
Actress and comedian Dame Meera Syal received a damehood for services to literature, drama and charity. She is known for the BBC TV series “Goodness Gracious Me” and “The Kumars at No. 42”, and is also an ambassador for Alzheimer’s support charities.
Comedian Paul Elliott, known as Paul Chuckle of the Chuckle Brothers, was awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for charitable services. He is a long-time supporter of the Marie Curie charity.
