April 08, (THEWILL) – Son Heung-min, Tottenham Hotspur’s prolific striker, achieved a remarkable feat by joining an exclusive club of 34 players who have scored at least 100 English Premier League goals.
In what can be described as a disappointing season in front of the goal for Son, the South Korean’s strike against Brighton brought up the tally of his goals to a century in the EPL on Saturday afternoon. The goal was a trademark scorcher that curled past the keeper and landed in the top corner of the net.
Last season, Son finished as the joint-top scorer in the League, with 23 goals. However, this season has been less productive for the forward. While he has taken more attempts at goal, his conversion rate has fallen drastically from an impressive 27% to a meagre 10%. Nonetheless, Son’s performance against Brighton demonstrated that he can still produce magic on the pitch.
As underwhelming as Tottenham’s season has been so far, Son has continued to persevere in adding extra force to their forward line. Now, he has entered into EPL history as the first Asian player to score more than 100 goals, with only four of those goals coming from headers.
His father, Woong-Jeong, was a former footballer in the South Korean lower leagues, who put a great emphasis on ensuring that his children were talented with both feet. As a result, Son has proven to be a highly versatile player, who has now become a history-maker in the EPL.
