November 07, (THEWILL) — Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has called for the immediate release of Samuel Ojeogwu, popularly known as Sammy West, the brother of Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, who is currently being held at the Keffi Correctional Centre.
A magistrate court in Abuja had earlier denied Ojeogwu bail and ordered that he remain in custody until November 28.
In a statement shared on social media, Sowore alleged that Senator Ned Nwoko influenced the detention, claiming that the lawmaker worked with the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to ensure Ojeogwu remained in custody. The activist described the development as unjust.
“I have again been informed that Senator Ned Nwoko has used his influence, working hand in glove with the Inspector General of Police, to have a young man unjustly imprisoned at the notorious Keffi Prison.
“The victim in this latest act is Samuel Ojeogwu, the younger brother of Nwoko’s now temporarily estranged wife, Regina Daniels,” Sowore wrote.
The activist condemned what he described as an abuse of state power and called for the immediate withdrawal of the charges and Ojeogwu’s release.
Neither Senator Nwoko nor the Nigeria Police Force has responded publicly to Sowore’s allegations as of the time of filing this report.
The case has fueled widespread public interest amid ongoing reports of tension within the marriage between Senator Nwoko and Regina Daniels.
