July 31, (THEWILL) — “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has broken preview records at the box office globally and in Nigeria after earning an estimated $72 million from Thursday’s preview screenings, including early Wednesday showings.
The Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios release surpassed the previous global preview record of $60 million set by “Avengers: Endgame” during its Thursday previews in 2019.
The film also delivered a historic debut in Nigeria, earning ₦51.2 million from its Wednesday preview screenings alone.
The figure more than doubled the previous Nigerian preview record of ₦24.4 million, set by “Avengers: Endgame” in 2019.
Filmhouse Cinemas also confirmed that more than 3,500 tickets were sold before release, making it the biggest advance ticket sale in Nigerian cinema history.
The strong preview performance has raised expectations for a massive opening weekend.
Independent box office trackers now project “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” to earn between $260 million and $300 million domestically, while Sony has maintained a more cautious estimate of $190 million to $195 million.
If the higher projections are reached, the film would record the second-biggest domestic opening ever, behind only “Avengers: Endgame.”
In Nigeria, the film is also expected to set new milestones.
Local box office trackers project an opening weekend haul of between ₦300 million and ₦350 million, while some estimates suggest it could reach ₦450 million to ₦500 million or more during its five-day opening period.
That would surpass the current Nigerian opening weekend record of ₦247.4 million held by “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” marks Tom Holland’s return as Peter Parker five years after “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
The film follows Peter as he lives in a world where no one remembers who he is. Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, and Sadie Sink are part of the cast.
The record-breaking preview performance shows that Spider-Man remains one of the biggest names at the box office.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” opened in cinemas on Friday, July 31, 2026, and is still playing in theatres nationwide.
