June 25, (THEWILL) – Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona, have held talks about Clement Lenglet and a prospective transfer from the Spanish side to England.
Italian defender, Alessandro Bastoni, was the primary objective of Spurs’ search for a left-sided center-back this summer, but it is now very likely that he will stay at Inter. And, while the north London side has previously discussed Pau Torres with Villarreal, they currently have Lenglet in mind as a target defender.
The 27-year-old has played 160 times for Barcelona, and after a promising beginning to his time with the Blaugrana, he has subsequently struggled and fallen out of favour with new head coach, Xavi Hernandez, starting just seven games in La Liga the previous campaign.
A loan deal is the intention of Spurs for Lenglet, but Barcelona is looking at an outright permanent transfer so they can get him off their books. However, Tottenham are not the only team keeping an eye on the France international. Marseille of Ligue 1 has inquired after securing a return to the Champions League, and Milan is also monitoring the position after missing out on long-term target, Sven Botman, to Newcastle.
Although this has nothing to do with Barcelona’s pursuit of Jules Kounde, Lenglet’s former team, Sevilla, has also made him an offer.
