August 30, (THEWILL) — Wolverhampton Wanderers are finalising a transfer agreement for striker, Tolu Arokodare, from Belgian club, Genk, with the deal valued at approximately £22.4 million plus performance-related bonuses of £1 million. The 24-year-old Nigeria international has attracted significant attention following his prolific scoring record in Belgium’s top flight.
The forward has shown consistent goal-scoring ability during his time at Genk, netting 41 goals and contributing 12 assists across 113 appearances since joining from French club, Amiens, in January 2023. His most impressive campaign came last season when he found the net 23 times and created seven goals in 45 matches across all competitions.
Arokodare’s pending arrival at Molineux will not influence the future of current striker, Jorgen Strand Larsen, despite Newcastle United’s persistent interest in the Norwegian. The Magpies have submitted two unsuccessful bids totalling £50 million and £55 million respectively, with Strand Larsen reportedly keen on a move to Tyneside.
The Nigerian striker’s international credentials include four appearances for the Super Eagles, during which he has scored once. His journey to European football began in 2019 with Latvian side, Valmiera, before brief spells in Germany with FC Koln and France with Amiens led to his successful stint in Belgium.
Wolves face immediate pressure to strengthen their squad following defeats in their opening two English Premier League fixtures this season. The West Midlands club will aim to reverse their early-season form when they host Everton on Saturday, with Arokodare’s potential addition representing a significant investment in their attacking options.
