SAN FRANCISCO, November 23, (THEWILL) – Players of the Super Eagles squad were featured in their different teams this past weekend and, in all, it was a great weekend for most of them.
THEWILL presents a round up of how they fared across matches played.
In the English Premiership, Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi played the entire game away to Fulham. Operating from the right wing, his long balls and accurate dribbles were a constant disturbance for the hosts. He was directly involved in the team effort that led to the second Everton goal netted by star man Dominic Calvert-Lewin. It was a solid shift.
In the Fulham right back, Ola Aina turned in another impressive game. He made timely tackles, kept his area strong with decisive interceptions and won a fair share of the ground duels. Though, he was on the losing side, with Fulham going down 3-2 to Everton, he did not have a poor game.
In the Dutch Professional League, goalkeeper Maduka Okoye kept a clean sheet for the second consecutive game for Sparta Rotterdam as they crushed ADO den Haag 6-nil. He becomes the first Sparta goalie to keep back-to-back clean sheets in 2020.
Right back Tyronne Ebuehi also had a masterful show for FC Twente in their 1-1 draw against PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie. As the second best player on the pitch, the defender made five clearances, two critical tackles whilst winning 83% of his ground duels and even completing 100% of his dribbles. He was on for the entire game.
Substitute forward Chidera Ejuke played 26 minutes off the bench for CSKA Moscow in the Russian Premier League Division as they drew 1-1 at home with Sochi. He recorded a shot on target, provided a teammate with a key pass and had an average dribble success rate in the brief time he was on the pitch. So far this season, Ejuke has scored two goals.
Midfielder Joe Aribo played 75 minutes and centre back Leon Balogun played the full match for Rangers in their 4-0 trouncing of Aberdeen in the Scottish top flight. Aribo performed creditably in the centre of the park until his substitution while Balogun worked with the defence-line for another clean sheet. He directly effected interceptions and recoveries to preserve the clean sheet.
In the Bundesliga, right back Kevin Akpoguma played the entire 90 minutes for TSG Hoffenheim in their 3-3 draw at home to Stuttgart. He made two clearances and blocked two shots. The defender even recorded a shot on target for a very good day at the office.
Championship side Watford visited Queens Park Rangers and centre back William Troost-Ekong featured fully in the 1-1 draw at Loftus Road. He made five clearances for the Hornets as they hung on to draw. His attempt at goal was off the mark.
In La Liga, right midfielder Samuel Chukwueze was an important substitute for Villarreal in the 61st minute. He made an immediate impact when he was introduced with Madrid leading by a lone goal. The winger drove at and stretched the visitors’ defence which led to goalie Thibaut Courtois bringing him down as he moved to score. The penalty awarded was converted by Gerard Moreno. That contributed to earning Villarreal a precious point against the Spanish champions.
In Belgium’s First Division, striker Paul Onuachu reached double figures in goals for KRC Genk with their 4-1 victory over Royal Excel Mouscron. His headed goal from close range capped a fine performance for the lanky forward who now has ten goals in the Jupiler League. He was replaced in the 86th minute by compatriot forward Cyriel Dessers.
In the Ligue 1, left winger Samuel Kalu produced the match winning assist to Hatem Ben Arfa for Bordeaux in their 1-0 win away at Stade Rennais. The Nigerian played 59 minutes on his return from injury. Yet, he was the player with the most dribbles in the fixture.
