February 16, (THEWILL) — Israeli television producer, Dana Eden, co-creator and executive producer of the hit spy thriller ‘Tehran’, has been found dead in a hotel room in Athens, Greek police said.

The 52-year-old was in Greece for the filming of the show’s fourth season.

According to police, she was found late Sunday near Syntagma Square after a relative made several unsuccessful attempts to contact her.

“An autopsy has been ordered, the surveillance cameras have been reviewed, and everything seems to indicate it was a suicide”, a police spokesperson said.

An investigation has been launched.

Eden had arrived in Athens on February 4 for the production. The first three seasons of ‘Tehran’, which follows a Mossad agent working undercover in the Iranian capital, were also filmed in the city.

Production on season four had been delayed following the October 7, 2023, attacks in Israel and the war in Gaza.

Donna and Shula Productions, the international production company Eden co-founded with Shula Spiegel, released a statement addressing speculation about her death.

“This is a moment of great sorrow for the family, friends, and colleagues.

“The production company wishes to clarify that rumours regarding a criminal or nationalistic-related death are not true and are unfounded”, the statement said.

The company also urged the media and the public to avoid publishing unverified claims.

‘Tehran’, which streams internationally on Apple TV+, is one of the most internationally sold Israeli television productions. The series won the International Emmy Award for Best Drama Series in 2021.

Israeli Culture Minister, Miki Zohar, paid tribute on social media, describing Eden as “one of the most prominent and influential producers in the Israeli television industry.”

Eden had a career spanning more than three decades and was widely regarded as a key figure in the global rise of Israeli television drama.
