June 19 (THEWILL) — Nigerian Grammy-winning singer Tems performed at the opening ceremony of the Barack Obama Presidential Center in Chicago on June 18, 2026.
The private event was held at the John Lewis Plaza and marked the completion of the $850 million center, a day before it opened to the public.
Tems performed her hit song “Me & U” for guests that included former U.S. President Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, and their daughters Malia and Sasha.
Other political figures in attendance included Joe and Dr. Jill Biden, George W. and Laura Bush, and Bill and Hillary Clinton.
The event also featured several global performers, including Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, John Legend, Jennifer Hudson, Christina Aguilera, and members of U2, Bono and The Edge.
Following her performance, Tems said she felt nervous on the big stage but described the opportunity as an honour.
She also apologized after accidentally saying “Sandra” instead of Sasha while referring to one of the Obama daughters.
She later took to social media to laugh off the mistake, writing: “Lord knows I was nervous! Please forgive me!!!”
