Aug 03, (THEWILL) — Nigerian singer-songwriter Tems has reached another major milestone after surpassing 6 billion streams across all credits on Spotify. She is now the first African female artist to achieve the feat.
The milestone also makes her only the fourth African artist to cross the 6 billion-stream mark on the platform. She joins fellow Nigerian stars Wizkid, Burna Boy and Rema, further highlighting Nigeria’s strong presence on the global music scene.
Tems’ success has been powered by a mix of global collaborations and hit solo songs. Her biggest streaming record is “WAIT FOR U”, her collaboration with Future and Drake, which has recorded more than 1.3 billion streams on Spotify.
The song also earned her a Grammy Award and received an RIAA Diamond certification.
She first gained global attention through Wizkid’s “Essence”, one of the biggest Afrobeats songs to break into the international mainstream.
Since then, she has appeared on major songs including Drake’s “Fountains” and Beyoncé’s “MOVE”, helping her reach even more listeners around the world.
Beyond collaborations, Tems has established herself as a leading solo act. Tracks such as “Free Mind”, “Higher”, “Me & U” and the Grammy-winning “Love Me Jeje” have each attracted hundreds of millions of streams.
Her debut studio album, “Born in the Wild”, also enjoyed strong streaming success and further established her as one of Africa’s leading music stars.
