June 10, (THEWILL) — American singer, actress, and filmmaker Teyana Taylor will be honoured with the Icon of the Year Award at the upcoming 2026 BET Awards.
The 35-year-old is set to receive the honour during the live ceremony on Sunday, June 28, at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles. The event will be hosted by comedian Druski.
The Icon of the Year Award recognises artists whose influence extends beyond music and who have made a significant impact on culture and the entertainment industry.
Announcing the honour on Tuesday, June 9, BET executive Connie Orlando praised Taylor as a leading creative force whose work spans music, film, fashion, and directing.
“She doesn’t ask for a seat at the table; she builds the table, designs the rooms, and sets the tone for everyone who walks in,” Orlando said.
The recognition comes during a standout period in Taylor’s career. In recent years, she has earned critical acclaim for her acting roles, music projects, and work behind the camera as a director and creative producer.
A major highlight of her recent success is her performance in Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest film, “One Battle After Another”, which has been widely praised. The role earned her a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress, as well as Academy Award and BAFTA nominations.
She has also received several other major honours, including a Critics’ Choice Award for her performance in “A Thousand and One” and a Grammy Award nomination for her latest visual album, “Escape Room.”
More performers, presenters, and special guests for the 2026 BET Awards are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
