BEVERLY HILLS, October 31, (THEWILL) – English Premier League matches will continue during the period of the impending four-week lockdown it has been announced.
The British Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Oliver Dowden confirmed this in the wake of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s address to the nation.
Dowden noted that elite sport, alongside other industries where working from home is not possible, will continue during this lockdown.
“The changes mean people should work from home where possible,” tweeted Dowden.
“But where this is not possible, travel to a place of work will be permitted – e.g. this includes (but not exhaustive) elite sport played behind closed doors.”
THEWILL believes this clarification assures Premiership management that there will not be another need to pause the fixtures and reschedule them for later dates as was the case during the previous lockdowns.
Yet, the niggling worries about when fans can be allowed back for in-person attendance at matches, the financial implications of playing behind closed doors and the thinning of funds due to these lockdowns continue to plague football.
