August 4, (THEWILL) — Ariana Grande has spoken out about her decision to step back from public life, telling fans that the move was carefully planned and not a reaction to recent criticism.
The singer addressed the announcement during her “Eternal Sunshine Tour” stop at the United Center in Chicago on Monday, August 3, where she reassured fans who were concerned about the reason behind her upcoming break.
Grande said the decision was something she had considered for a long time and came from a place of personal choice rather than pressure, adding that taking a step back was also about recognizing the importance of setting personal boundaries.
“The announcement that was made yesterday was not a reactive or impulsive thing. It is something that I had decided to plan quietly, a long time ago.”
She added: “Boundaries need to be set; human beings do need a break sometimes.”
The Grammy-winning singer also dismissed suggestions that online negativity influenced her decision, saying the support she receives from fans remains more important.
Grande described her ongoing “Eternal Sunshine Tour” as one of the most meaningful experiences of her life, saying the journey has brought her healing and joy.
Her representative previously confirmed that the singer would take a break from public appearances after completing the tour, following years of intense public attention surrounding her personal life, appearance and health.
The decision also means Grande will no longer appear in the upcoming West End revival of Stephen Sondheim’s “Sunday in the Park with George” at London’s Barbican, where she was expected to star alongside her “Wicked” co-star Jonathan Bailey.
Grande will continue with the remaining dates of her “Eternal Sunshine Tour”, including a 10-night run in London before the tour concludes on September 1.
The singer told fans that despite stepping away from the spotlight, her connection with them remains unchanged.
“No matter what noises exist out there, nothing will ever be able to distort my reality, or be more real to me than this love that we share.”
