May 19, (THEWILL) – President Bola Tinubu has approved the issuance of essential licences for the Kolmani Integrated Development Project, a significant oil exploration venture straddling Bauchi and Gombe states.
This initiative, aimed at boosting Nigeria’s oil production, was announced by Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), during the launch of the new Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy site on Sunday.
In a statement, Lokpobiri highlighted that President Tinubu’s approval reflects a strategic move to enhance oil production by utilising all available hydrocarbon resources across the nation. This aligns with the administration’s focus on leveraging Nigeria’s energy assets to spur industrial growth, generate employment, and increase national revenue.
Lokpobiri praised Bauchi State for its commitment to aligning with federal energy objectives, particularly through the establishment of the oil and gas academy, which aims to bolster local expertise in the sector. He also acknowledged the Petroleum Technology Development Fund’s role in developing skilled manpower essential for the energy industry’s future.
Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, expressed gratitude for the federal support and emphasised the academy’s role in fostering skill development and innovation, benefiting both the state and the nation.
The Kolmani Integrated Development Project, initiated in November 2022, marks a pivotal step in oil exploration in Northern Nigeria. Situated at the Kolmani River II oil field, this project promises to revitalise the region’s economic landscape.
Bayo Ojulari, Group Chief Executive of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, announced plans to resume oil drilling at the site. He noted that this project would rejuvenate previously closed companies, open new opportunities, and ultimately lead to increased wealth and prosperity for the region. Additionally, efforts will continue to complete the gas pipeline from Ajaokuta to Kano, further enhancing the nation’s energy infrastructure.
