March 10, (THEWILL) — Afrobeats star, Tiwa Savage, officially launched the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation at a high-profile event in Lagos, an initiative aimed at supporting the next generation of African music creatives through mentorship, industry access, and world-class education.
The launch took place on March 9, 2026, at the Delborough Hotel in Victoria Island and drew prominent figures from Nigeria’s entertainment, business, and political circles.
Notable guests included Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Bose Ogulu, Don Jazzy, Mo Abudu, Florence Ita-Giwa, Daisy Danjuma, Shade Okoya, Johnny Drille, and Cobhams Asuquo.
The foundation is being run in collaboration with Berklee College of Music, one of the world’s leading contemporary music institutions. Its flagship programme, “Berklee in Nigeria: Tiwa Savage Intensive Music Program”, will be held in Lagos from April 23 to 26, 2026.
The programme will provide 100 selected participants with free training in live performance, songwriting, music production, and the music business.
Applications are open until March 20, 2026, for emerging musicians, producers, and songwriters across Africa.
Speaking at the event, Tiwa said the foundation was created to address gaps in education and infrastructure in Nigeria’s music industry.
“We have so much talent in Nigeria, but we must build infrastructure and invest in education so that when people see our talent, they also see access”, she said.
She added that the initiative will also explore key areas of the music ecosystem, including film scoring, music publishing, music therapy, production and sound engineering.
According to Savage, the programme will provide professional training and global exposure for emerging creatives across different areas of the music business.
“The opportunity is already paid for. So, my advice is to use it wisely because opportunity favours the prepared.
“This is the first of many years. If you don’t get in this year, you will have the chance to prepare for the next editions”, she said.
Tiwa also stressed the importance of government support in strengthening Nigeria’s creative economy.
“In anything you do, you will always need the support and blessing of the government”, she added.
Governor Sanwo-Olu said he attended the event to celebrate the singer and support the initiative.
“You know what it is about. Today is her day. She’s one of our best, so I have to support her”, the governor said.
The Tiwa Savage Music Foundation aims to provide education, mentorship and international exposure to young African creatives interested in different areas of the music industry.
