August 03, (THEWILL) – NFL legend, Tom Brady, has taken on a new role as a minority owner of English second division football club, Birmingham City.
The 46-year-old entered into a partnership with US-based Knighthead Capital Management LLC, which recently completed its takeover of Birmingham in July. As a result, the seven-time Super Bowl winner now holds part-ownership of the team and serves as chair of the Advisory Board, working closely with the club’s Board and leadership team.
Brady’s involvement with Birmingham City marks a significant move in his post-retirement ventures. The Championship club did not hide their excitement in having the iconic NFL star on board, and Brady, in turn, confirmed that it was an honour being part of the Blues. He intends to apply his perspective to create success for the second city club and contribute to global marketing efforts while identifying new commercial partnership opportunities.
Brady’s investment in Birmingham follows a trend of former NFL stars turning to English football. Notably, former defensive end JJ Watt became a minority investor in Burnley. The announcement of Brady’s partnership with Birmingham City coincided with his birthday on August 3, and it precedes the club’s 2023/2024 Championship season, where they kick off with an away match against Swansea City.
