August 03, (THEWILL) – Chelsea manager, Mauricio Pochettino, has expressed concern over the knee injury sustained by new signing, Christopher Nkunku, during a recent friendly against Borussia Dortmund.
The midfielder limped off the pitch midway through the first half with implications for Chelsea’s English Premier League opener against Liverpool in just 10 days. “The doctors are checking him, hopefully it is not a big issue but when he fell in the action maybe it was a penalty,” Pochettino said. While some pointed fingers at the playing surface at Chicago’s Soldier Field, Pochettino attributed the injury to bad luck.
Despite the injury setback, Pochettino remained confident that Chelsea would be ready for their upcoming campaign: “There is only one option, to be ready and we are going to be ready.” The manager also praised the team’s performance in the friendly against Dortmund: “I think we deserved to win but it’s not about the result, it’s about the feelings and performance.” He added that he was satisfied with the team’s overall tour performance and urged them to continue working and evolving their play style.
