March 14, (THEWILL) – Despite snatching a last-gasp 1-1 draw at Torino on Sunday, Inter Milan handed local rivals, AC Milan, the advantage in the Serie A title race, as Napoli leapfrogged them into second position with a 2-1 victory at Verona earlier.
Samir Handanovic spectacularly tipped Armando Izzo’s free header beyond in the 64th minute, after Brazilian defender, Bremer, had given the hosts the lead with 11 minutes gone.
Seconds earlier, Robin Gosens saved his goalie with a heroic effort to prevent Croatian star Josip Brekala from scoring what would have been a spectacular individual goal after the Croatian weaved his path into the box.
They were also saved by the officials after Andrea Ranocchia was ruled to have not fouled Andrea Belotti in the area nine minutes before the break.
Edin Dzeko finally set up Sanchez’s equaliser in the final minutes of the game after being Inter’s worst culprit in front of goal. He headed narrowly wide on the hour mark and then nodded over from point-blank range moments before his Chilean teammate did the honours for inter.
The result meant Inter finished third, four points behind Milan, as Alexis Sanchez equalised in the third minute of stoppage time of an entertaining match in Turin.
Although Simone Inzaghi’s team has a game in hand, they are again looking over their shoulders at Juventus, who are only three points behind them in fourth following a 14-match unbeaten run.
This reality would have been inconceivable at the start of the year, when Inter led the table by four points and Juventus by twelve.
