March 14, (THEWILL) – Award winning photo journalist and filmmaker, Brent Renaud, has been shot dead by Russian soldiers in Ukraine.

According to Andriy Nebytov, Kyiv’s police chief, Renaud had been targeted by Russian soldiers in the town of Irpin.

He was hit in the neck, while two other journalists, who were wounded in the shooting were taken to a hospital in Kyiv.

Juan Arrendondo, one of the injured journalist said he was with Renaud when they were attacked.

“We were across the first bridge in Irpin, going to film other refugees leaving and we got into a car.” He stated in a video.

“Somebody offered to take us to the other bridge and we crossed a check point, and they started shooting at us. So the driver turned around and they kept shooting. It was two of us. My friend is Brent Renaud and he’s been shot and left behind…I saw him being shot on the neck.”

Renaud had worked with several media organisations such as HBO, NBC, The New York Times. He covered conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, the earthquake in Haiti and some other conflict related stories.
