December 10, (THEWILL) — Tottenham returned to winning form in the Champions League with a 3-0 victory over Slavia Prague, strengthening their pursuit of a top-eight finish whilst damaging the Czech side’s play-off ambitions.
The visitors started brightly when Wilson Odobert’s run created a dangerous cross for Richarlison, but goalkeeper Jindrich Stanek made a brilliant reaction save. Stanek continued to frustrate Spurs with further stops from Mohammed Kudus and Richarlison, whilst Mojmir Sadilek wasted a promising chance at the opposite end. The deadlock finally broke on 26 minutes when Cristian Romero’s flick from a corner struck David Zima and diverted past the helpless keeper.
Tottenham extended their advantage five minutes after the interval. Pedro Porro’s cross struck the arm of sliding defender Youssoupha Sanyang, and Kudus converted the penalty with conviction. Substitute Mathys Tel nearly added a third moments after entering the pitch, cutting inside from the left before forcing Stanek into another sharp stop.
Xavi Simons completed the scoring after being fouled by Igoh Ogbu inside the area. The Dutchman stepped up to take the penalty himself, slotting his effort low into the bottom-right corner beyond Stanek’s reach.
The result lifted Tottenham’s hopes of automatic qualification, whilst Slavia Prague face an uphill task to progress beyond the league phase.
