February 01, (THEWILL) – Tottenham Hotspur have strengthened their squad by signing Spanish wing-back, Pedro Porro, from Sporting CP on the final day of the transfer window.

The deal is worth £40 million (€45 million) and is expected to be made permanent at the end of the season. The move is seen as a boost to Tottenham’s top-four bid, with the team currently fifth in the Premier League and just three points behind Manchester United and Newcastle United.

Pedro Porro, who has three goals and 11 assists for Sporting CP this season, underwent a medical on Tuesday and signed with Spurs just before the transfer window closed. The 23-year-old has previously played for Spanish team, Girona, and Manchester City, although he failed to make a competitive appearance for the English Premier League champions.

Porro could make his Tottenham debut on Sunday, against his former club, Manchester City, as Tottenham look to avenge the 4-2 defeat they suffered earlier this month. He will be competing with Emerson Royal for a place in the right wing-back position.

In other transfer news, as THEWILL reported, Djed Spence has completed a loan move to Ligue 1 side Rennes until the end of the season. Matt Doherty has also left the team on a free transfer to Atletico Madrid.
