April 24, (THEWILL) – Tottenham Hotspur have sacked Cristian Stellini as interim head coach after just four matches in charge.
Stellini was appointed following the sacking of Antonio Conte in March, but his tenure was short-lived. He managed a 1-1 draw against Everton and a 2-1 win against Brighton, but losses to Bournemouth and Newcastle resulted in his immediate dismissal.
Ryan Mason, who served as interim head coach after Jose Mourinho was sacked in February 2021, will lead the team until the end of the season. Tottenham are currently in fifth place in the English Premier League table, but six points away from a UEFA Champions League spot with six games remaining in the season.
The club is also searching for a long-term successor for Conte, with former Bayern Munich manager, Julian Nagelsmann, rumoured to be the front-runner. Their recent struggles have not been limited to the pitch. The club’s Director of Football, Fabio Paratici, left on Friday, after FIFA imposed a worldwide ban on him over alleged financial wrongdoing while he was at Juventus.
The club faces Manchester United on Thursday, and Liverpool on Sunday, as they try to secure a spot in Europe’s premier competition for next season.
