July 11, (THEWILL) – Tottenham Hotspur have signed Israel forward, Manor Solomon, on a free transfer, the club have announced.
The 23-year-old joins Spurs on a five-year deal after his contract with Ukrainian side, Shakhtar Donetsk, was terminated due to the ongoing war in the country. Solomon had been on loan at Fulham last season, scoring five goals in 24 appearances for the Cottagers.
He is Spurs’ fourth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Dejan Kulusevski, Guglielmo Vicario and James Maddison. Solomon’s contract with Shakhtar was due to expire at the end of the year, but he was able to terminate it early due to the war in Ukraine.
FIFA extended its temporary employment rules relating to the war in March, allowing foreign players contracted to clubs affiliated to Ukrainian or Russian Football Associations to “unilaterally suspend their employment” until June 30, 2024.
Solomon impressed during his loan spell at Fulham last season, scoring five goals in 24 appearances. He will now be hoping to make a similar impact at Tottenham, who are looking to build on their fourth-place finish in the English Premier League last season.
