May 11, (THEWILL) – Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has reaffirmed his determination to achieve a top-four finish in the English Premier League this season, despite his team’s recent struggles. The Australian gaffer insists he will not relinquish the pursuit of UEFA Champions League qualification, even as Spurs face an uphill battle with just three games remaining.
Ahead of Saturday’s home clash against Burnley, Postecoglou addressed concerns over Tottenham’s four-game losing streak, which has threatened to derail their promising campaign. “I don’t give up on anything. I’m here fighting tooth and nail every single day for everything I can get for this football club because that’s my responsibility”, the former Celtic boss stated emphatically.
While acknowledging the significance of a top-four spot, Postecoglou emphasised that merely qualifying for the UCL does not automatically elevate a team to elite European status. “Finishing fourth and getting into the Champions League does not make you a Champions League club, in my opinion. It just gives you an opportunity to be in there. To me, to be a Champions League club and to be at that level requires more than finishing fourth in one year”, he explained.
With Tottenham currently seven points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa, albeit with a game in hand, the task of overtaking Unai Emery’s side appears daunting. However, Postecoglou remains undeterred, declaring, “I want us to finish the season strong. I want us to try and win three games of football and see where that takes us.”
