March 14, (THEWILL) — Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Toyin Abraham, has revealed that her open support for Bola Tinubu during the last election negatively affected her career.
The actress made the disclosure while advising actor, Timini Egbuson, on how to achieve strong box-office success with his movies.
She said, “The first advice I will give you in my entire life is don’t put your mouth in politics. Don’t tell them you’re supporting anybody. Don’t support anybody, just be on your own. Be neutral.”
When Timini reminded her of her public support for Tinubu during the last election, the actress replied, “That was then and it affected me oo.”
Abraham openly campaigned for Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election and urged Nigerians to vote for him.
Following the election, she faced criticism and trolling on social media, with some users calling for a boycott of her films because of her political stance.
The actress has also previously spoken about online harassment directed at her and her family, saying supporting a political candidate should not attract personal attacks.
